Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

We begin our class with sharing successes. My class is a family. We are constantly involved in discussions as well as reading high level text. To support the literacy that is incorporated in my class, the students need to participate in hands-on activities via conducting experiments.

This is the 2nd year for my school to implement an AP biology program.

I want my students to be able to go more in depth with various biology concepts as well as increase his/her critical thinking skills. My students are extremely intelligent and motivated. They are highly inquisitive and always ready to learn. They come from diverse backgrounds. My school is a rural school with a population of approximately 850 students. The majority of the students qualify for free and reduced lunch. Although, the majority of our students live in poverty, they are students that can compete with the best.

My Project

Due to limited resources, in the past, biology classes have not been able conduct a variety of laboratory experiments. If this project is funded, then my students will be able to use microscopes to view a variety of organisms. The students will be able to engage in a true lab setting. This will be a tremendous benefit to the students that are planning to pursue post-secondary school. The students will be able to carry out the AP Biology labs such as osmosis, animal behavior, enzyme, and photosynthesis lab (just to name a few). This allows the students to apply what he or she has learned theoretically.

My students will be able to perform a variety of lab experiments that they would not be able to perform without the donation.

This will allow the students to be more competitive with their peers. This will help level the playing field for my students with those students they may attend a more affluent school.
