The students in my class attend an urban school district with limited financial resources. Most of the students receive free or reduced-price lunches. Many of them have experienced crime in their lives and find it difficult to come to school. It can be overwhelming to know how to help. They are sweet kids with big dreams. They dream of learning, being successful athletes, helping their families, and reaching their full potential.
Many of these students must overcome obstacles such as poverty and uncertain home situations.
A high-quality educator can make a significant difference in a student’s life. When I look at my students, I see unlimited possibilities. Overall, my students living in poverty are just like other children, but they can encounter limitations and barriers that make it harder to learn, including students whose first language is not English. My main goal is to give each student the chance to have success in school and beyond.
My Project
This project is geared towards supporting student's learning while at home. Students will receive their own draw and write a journal with blank pages to create stories, along with pencils and paper to write and color with.
These materials will encourage open-ended learning while at home, and promote creativity and exploration.
Students will be able to create with playdoh, use sentence strips to make words, and will have an All About Me Poster to personalize and share with others.
Thank you for considering this project and supporting our youngest learners during the pandemic.
