My Students

As a physical education teacher, I work with students in a different setting than the classroom. I see physical education as an excellent medium to communicate core values to the students.

Our school is a diverse and inclusive school community where children are educated through a collaborative effort among parents, staff, students, and community with a focus on meeting both the academic and social-emotional needs of every child.

We provide a rigorous and accessible academic program in all content areas, to instill a love of learning in our students and to prepare them to be responsible and productive global citizens. Learning at our school expands beyond the four walls of the classroom so that students are engaging with the community around them.

My Project

This project will bring A Fair Shake for Youth to our school. Students will be working with, and learning from, therapy dogs. The training includes basic commands and agility skills. Students will learn what it takes to care for the animals. Students will also learn about animal shelters, puppy mills, and responsible ownership. The program does an excellent job of having the students reflect on their emotions and comparing them to the dogs emotions. Through this, students will learn about leadership, stability, love, and empathy. Many of our students need to continue to grow these core social/emotional skills

Through The Fair Shake for Youth Program, students will experience a self-esteem boost and expand their social and emotional skills.

The Fair Shake Program will have a huge impact in the way the students perceive themselves and how they value themselves as individuals.

Students will also visit an animal shelter to see what life is like for dogs that do not yet have a forever home. Through this experience, students will learn the skills and knowledge that they can share with their friends and carry with them through life.
