My students need a Vernier LabQuest 2 handheld data collector to take air samples in sunlight, shade, and indoors to compare air quality.

My Students
Do you remember classrooms that used just books to learn facts? My students learn best by doing hands-on projects. It is difficult to get excited about data that is just on paper but to imitate real scientists with technology truly engages them. They can't wait to come to class and explore.
My 6th grade science classes are part of a public school in a growing suburban town in NH.
Middle school students learn more by doing than reading. Science class is the perfect place to make discoveries. As the new national science standards are implemented, the focus is to develop STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) lessons. They love to make connections to real world problems. Instead of hearing "Why do we need to learn this?", I get students who can't wait to do things like forensics or other explorations.
My Project
My sixth grade science students are full of curiosity. They have great questions about how our world works and I hope to guide them to some answers. They have many concerns about actions that mankind does that impacts nature. My students hope to find evidence of change by collecting data about our environment. The Vernier Lab Quest 2 is a hand held data collector that allows the student to take it outside into the environment. Students will be able to go around the building inside and out, locating sunny and shady spots, and testing air quality. Students' favorite medium is technology and the Lab Quest not only provides that in a grown-up way, but we are able to save trees by using less paper. When we return to the classroom, we can upload the data to a computer to make graphs.
You can change their world!
Your generous donation will inspire my students. They will excitedly look forward to each time they can use the Lab Quest. You will help them develop an environmental conscience as we explore how much pollution is in the air and they will explore how this affects their lives. They will become global citizens as they mature and know they can make a difference to save our planet. They will thankfully know that your generosity sparked their discoveries.
