My Students

The 100 seventh and eighth-grade students in my gifted and talented classroom are anxious to learn and willing to stand up to the challenges I present to them in class.

Our class motto is: "I'm not telling you it's going to be easy, I'm telling you it's going to be worth it!" It is this motto that leads our instructional time.

They attend a public school in Ohio and have a variety of different backgrounds -- both financially and culturally. Despite this, they have one thing in common, they are parents and guardians who support the strive for academic success and personal growth.

My Project

We are requesting two video cameras, with tripods and memory cards, to document the experiences of veterans in our community as part of their study into the United States at War. The experiences of the past teach us how to be better humans in the future. The materials in this project will help my students, who have been studying oral histories as part of their United States at War curriculum, to tell the stories of others.

Students will document the experiences of veterans in our community, and learn how to tell their story in a visual documentary using the video recording devices.

These videos will then be a historical record, that we can share with others in the future, preserving our history. It is through these videos that future generations will know the past.
