This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
To say that my students have changed my life would be an understatement. I call my group of 31 six-and seven-year-olds "little humans with a love for learning." I often say that although I am the teacher, I feel as if I am the student.
They teach me to be silly, kind, and curious.
We are in a Title I school where over 90% of the students are Hispanic, and about 74% are on Free/Reduced lunch. Regardless of these statistics, my students have great capabilities. More than half of my class is reading on/above grade level. They are motivated and driven to learn even at their young age.
My Project
This document camera will allow my students to follow along with classroom material that I provide to supplement district textbooks/resources. Being that many of our books and resources are outdated, I find myself having to come up with my own resources for my students from books and online sources to supplement instruction. However, it can be difficult to provide class sets of materials. Making copies is time consuming and not environment friendly. Buying additional textbooks is costly and difficult due to district mandated requirements for aligning material with curriculum standards.
This document camera will allow my students to learn beyond their outdated textbooks and dive into the 21st century with up-to-date resources and materials.
With the document camera, the students will be able to see material up close on our interactive board. They will follow along as we read up on the latest TIME For Kids headlines or learn about how NASA's newest discovery. Additionally, the added lens will allow us double the use of our document camera as a microscope. From using this lens to study the fine lines of leaves or the print on U.S. currency, this project will greatly make a difference on how we learn in all the subject areas of my class.
So, help us start seeing the world up close and DOCUMENT THE CHANGE.
