"We can't see from our seats. Can you make it larger?" I hear that question all the time and wish I had a way to project our students' work to share in the classroom. A document camera and a projector would do so much for my young students who really need to see work to understand our lessons.
I teach wonderful, motivated second grade students in a New York City public school.
We are in one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the nation, and we are so happy to have so many cultures represented. Because of this rich diversity, we have so much to share. Our families speak many languages and are very proud of the school's advocacy for the children. We have a tremendous responsibility to meet the needs of these students who are so anxious to learn and succeed. That means we have to give them the opportunity to use the best resources, so they can move forward and achieve during their academic careers. If we don't provide those resources, who will? I am convinced that second grade is a grade in which many foundations for future learning are established. Our international community has to know that we value their students' success and that means giving the children the best.
My Project
If we only had a document camera and a projector, we would be able to share our work so much more easily on our white board. We feel it is so important to collaborate, but we need the right tools. In the class, I have a whiteboard but it is not interactive. When the children write compositions or draw examples of what they have learned in science I want them to be able to present their work with pride as they share it with the class. To do that, I would need a document camera and projector to project their work. The time it takes to go around the room and show the students the work is time consuming, and it's not the best use of time. The Epson document camera has enough power and light to help us collaborate and share the work. The InFocus projector would allow us to view what is placed under the document camera lens. Imagine the faces of my students as they see their work projected. That alone would be a photo to share with Donors Choose.
Technology has become a critical component of learning in today's classroom.
The document camera and projector are innovative and it can really make such a difference in how we learn. The self confidence, self esteem and the enhanced quality of work my students would be motivated to produce would change our classroom so dramatically. We're hoping for support with this document camera and projector we so badly need appeal to donors to bring our children the best resources. Thank you.
