My Students

I have just started at my new school and am so excited to work with the 5th and 6th grade classes! Both classes have come in with a strong knowledge (if not a love) of math. By the end of the year, I want them to be ready for 7th grade and for all of the math they'll encounter in the real world.

Our school is a wonderful school, where all of the teachers care for the students.

Our school is a bright spot for many students, and they come here eager to learn and to shine. We are unique because the school provides services to students with visual impairments, including blindness. (In my two classes, I have a few students with visual impairments.) Since I've started, I've heard only good things about the students in both of my classes. Already, I am seeing their funny and inquisitive personalities shine through. I am so happy to be in a school where diversity is appreciated, and I am so excited to get to know all of my students better.

My Project

The document camera will help in two ways. One, it will better project what I write in a large format for the students with visual impairments. Secondly, it will provide a great visual aide. In mathematics, it is so important to have models and illustrations available when explaining concepts. Students will be able to easily see any equations or models that are written underneath the document camera and then copy what they see into their notes.

The document camera will improve my students' understanding of mathematical concepts, such as fractions, ratios, and coordinate pairs by providing a visual model for them to work with.

It will also be able to display student work underneath the document camera to share ideas and problem-solving strategies.
