The students at our school come from all eight wards of Washington DC. They represent a variety of ethnic and economic backgrounds. As a school, we value the diversity of our student body and we seek to encourage deep thinking about our subject areas through collaborative work.
Though they come from many different backgrounds, our students form a strong community of learners and problem-solvers.
They are eager to learn and able to work with peers who are unlike themselves, skills desperately needed in our world today. In our math classroom, we focus on problem-solving, working together, and perseverance.
My Project
Much of our classroom time is spent in problem-solving and articulating solution paths. Students work individually or in a group on a problem and then are invited to share their thinking with their classmates. This not only gives the presenter a chance to hone his/her mathematic communication skills, but also allows students to hear problem-solving methods from their peers.
Our document camera broke recently and we do not have budget to replace it right away!
Help us to get a new document camera, so that students can more efficiently present their work and collaborate on problem-solving. We also like to use music for transitions and as a calming background while working. Help us to get a new wireless speaker to replace our cumbersome corded version.
