Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The worldwide pandemic has tremendously affected urban schools which includes my students in the mix. All of my students come from low socioeconomic status families, all revive free and reduced lunch but are all eager to keep learning and striving for success. I teach Kindergarten and it the last half of the school year 2019-2020 was a challenge for this age group because of the lack of one on one personal help that each student needs.
My students enjoy learning with hands on experiences and dynamic learning opportunities.
It is a heartfelt moment when I see a twinkle in their eye after they have completely learned and understood the target objective. This age group absorbs every learning experiences just like a sponge absorbs as much water possible. They are always excited to go to school because they know that learning will open doors for them and will allow them to be successful.
My Project
The document camera is something that is necessary for my students distant learning because I will be able show my kindergarten students penmanship techniques, hands on experiences, project based learning activities in the following content areas: reading, writing, science, math, social studies and English as a Second Language. With the document camera I will be able to teach live lessons and record the actual motion of pencil to paper handwriting. Handwriting is a necessary skill that students need to perfect in the early childhood grade levels to be able to carry on the skills to the upper grade levels and further on.
Kindergarten students are in the stage of emergent literacy and in this stage of learning they need a lot of visual assistance and plenty of modeling to showcase how to write upper case and lower case letters and how to appropriately write whole numbers to perfect their penmanship.
