My Students

"Knowledge is limited, imagination encircles the world" - Albert Einstein. This quote so perfectly describes what happens in my classroom daily and the goal I have for my students' learning.

Our classroom is an active and inviting environment inspiring students to create knowledge and explore through hands-on activities.

We are a fifth grade classroom at a school in the Piedmont of North Carolina. We are a federal Title I school but do not qualify locally for Title I funds. As a teacher, I am constantly looking for ways to engage my students and create excitement for what would normally be boring learning tasks. My students strive for excellence despite the lack of funding our school receives.

My Project

My students need headphones because we use on-line reading platforms to improve our reading skills and also increase the selection of books. Most of these platforms have audio to interact with students individually and we need headphones to decrease distractions.

My students need chapter books to read that have diverse characters as well as interesting story lines.

In fifth grade we study the United States, so the "Field Trip" and "Museum" mystery stories are perfect to teach problem solving and inference skills in famous museums and landmarks across the US.

Both the headphones and books will have a direct impact on not only my students this year, but for many years to come.
