Do You Wanna Play a Xylophone?

My students need exposure to Orff instruments. My students need a soprano xylophone.

My Students

A typical day in my classroom always involves instruments. I'm not the type of teacher to use textbooks and have students read about different instruments, I want them to be able to play on the instruments, touch the instruments and learn about their origin.

My students are excited to learn about music.

Every class period they are waiting for me to tell them it is time to get out instruments. Music allows my students to forget their struggles and just have fun experiencing music and learning how to sing and play different instruments. My students deserve to have lots of instruments to expand their knowledge and skills.

My Project

My students will use this instrument daily. My students will learn proper technique for performing on xylophones. Playing a xylophone improves fine motor skills and remember patterns of notes. I can tell you right now all of my students will be chomping at the bit to play this instrument if it gets funded. I can just hear them now "Can I play the xylophone today?" My dream is to have a full set of xylophones one day in my classroom for my students.

This project will make a difference in my classroom because we have only one xylophone.

Having only one gives maybe 5 students a chance to play on it in a class period. This will be a new experience and skill for my students to learn. There are many benefits to learning this instrument including fine motor skills, remember patterns and preparing them for the opportunity to play a marimba type instrument when they get into middle school.
