Do you have a love for reading? Do you love sitting down with a brand-new book, looking forward to finding out what is going to happen throughout the pages? My students do! They love to read and if they were allowed, they would spend the entire day reading.
I teach a class of 30 gifted second graders who fly through books in days.
They are advanced readers and they enjoy reading all different types of books. My school is located in a low-income area in NYC and the funds that are available for resources are few and far between.
My Project
My students thrive on opening the pages of a new book and a new world. Unfortunately, I do not have enough books in my classroom library to support the amount of reading that they do. I want to keep my students interested in reading and the books that I have right now are just not cutting it. My students love to read graphic novels and I know that they would enjoy the graphic novel biographies that I have requested. In addition, I need multiple copies of books so that my students can work in partnerships and groups to discuss the books that they are reading. If you were to donate to my project, you would be helping my students to maintain their interest and love for reading.
Reading makes the world go 'round and in my classroom, this is certainly the case.
My students love to read and without the right types of books to choose from, I fear that they will lose their interest in reading. I want my students to have a wide range of literature that will help them to explore various genres.
