Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you seen colorful maps, stories, illustrations or vivid timelines turn dull and boring when turned into photocopies? This year, our district has purchased a new reading series to target the common core curriculum but the material is mostly online.
My students are my superstars!
They are my superstars because I teach them to believe in themselves. I teach them to strive for the best and if at first they don't succeed, they need to keep on trying and never give up. My students a group of 3rd grade gifted students that are very inquisitive, love to learn and need to be challenged. Most of my students are on free or reduced lunch and are mostly Hispanic. I taught them in second grade and now have them in third grade as a homeroom self-contained class so I teach them Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies.
My Project
Please help my students thrive in learning and optimize their potential with a document camera and laptop. Our school does not have a lot of technology, but with your assistance, our classroom would be more up-to-date in technology. With the use of the laptop, my students would be able to access some of the required reading programs such as Successmaker and Reading Plus. The laptop would be used to connect to the Document Camera. By using the Document Camera I would be able to make less copies, therefore saving the trees by using less paper. When teaching across the curriculum, I could show my students the original of what I see and they would in turn view the vivid images as opposed to black and white copies. They could better understand the concepts taught in math, science, social studies and reading. The new reading series has many materials that are only accessed online so the laptop would be a valuable tool in accessing these materials.
