My Students

I teach second grade in an urban district. There's not a lot of extra money to go around, but teachers work together to make sure our students receive a rich and rewarding education. I proudly work in the district where I once was educated myself from grades K to 12. In my students' faces I see myself, full of promise and potential, ready to tackle the complexities of learning.

My second grade students are active, inquisitive, and all have distinct and unique personalities.They are eager to learn and they all deserve the best I can provide them so that they can thrive, grow, and succeed.

Every year in September, my students greet me on the first day of school with shy smiles and hugs. It is my goal to have them leave my classroom in June smiling more broadly and hugging me much more tightly, full of the skills necessary for success at the next level.

My Project

Every second grade class by nature is full of sounds. Chairs scraping the floor, pencils sharpening, and children's voices are just a few of the sounds heard daily, just the normal background music that lets the observer know that this room is a learning space. These background sounds are music to a teacher's ears, unless its time for testing or independent work. Then these sounds become distracting to those learners who need a quiet environment to function.

Without a doubt, second graders are sound making machines to their core.

It is hard to keep these social butterflies quiet while others are testing or working on online independent work. For this reason, I am seeking funding for a classroom set of 32 headphones. I would like each child to have his or her own set to help with the Covid 19 mitigating protocols that our district is following. Receiving a classroom set of headphones would mean we won't have to share with another classroom, and my students will have immediate access to their own headphones whenever the need arises.
