This year I will be starting a new adventure in teaching with an exciting group of 2nd graders! My students come from varying economic backgrounds, speak a number of different home languages, and have a wide range of learning abilities. I am so excited to start my first year at my new school. My students will walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. When I prompt them with "We are the..." they will reply with "Best!" I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything.
Our classroom is in a Title I school in Houston, Texas.
I strive for our classroom to be a home away from home and reiterate to my students that we are a classroom family.
My Project
Learning to read is about listening and understanding as well as working out what is printed on the page. Through hearing stories, children are exposed to a wide range of words. This helps them build their own vocabulary and improve their understanding when they listen, which is vital as they start to read.
With these materials for our new listening center, students will be able to embark on the journey of enjoying listening to reading.
This listening center will help students in their listening, fluency, and vocabulary skills. Help me give my students the opportunity to have different experiences with books through this listening center.
Due to changes in budget, my students will have limited access to paper and other materials this year. In addition to the listening center, I am also asking for paper so my students can create projects, have access to homework packets to extend their learning at home, and many other uses that will no longer be the norm. I am asking for help in securing materials necessary for my students' educational development.
