My students need four portable CD players with adaptors, a class set of whiteboard erasers, and a bulletin board storage box for our class interactive anchor charts.
My 3rd graders love curling up with a good book, but it's difficult to find sophisticated books they can read independently. Recently, I started checking out higher level audio books from the library - and my students rose to the challenge! Problem is, not all students want to read the same text!
I teach a class of 3rd grade students that love the experiences they receive from getting lost in a good book.
The reading levels in my classroom range from eagerly beginning to learn English to comprehending a 5th grade level text. I have recently started checking out higher level texts with audio books from the public library for my students to read and discuss in small groups together. Currently, we only have one CD player in our classroom, and one computer with CD playing capabilities, which the groups have to share. While reading a text, students write notes on sticky-notes or their whiteboard. The students then work on creating an interactive anchor chart based on the information read in the text. While reading a text, students write notes on sticky-notes or their whiteboard.
My Project
I am asking for two portable CD players; this would help me reach more students in my classroom. The students would be able to spend more time reading and having in-depth discussions about their texts. Students take notes, while their reading their text, on sticky-notes, whiteboards (erasers will be used to keep hands clean!), or in their literacy notebook. While reading the jotting, they will be able to better understand the content of the story or theme of a text. This would provide the students the ability to think critically about the content, use their imagination, make connections, and work together in collaborative groups to share their points of view and ideas about a text. Students will work together and create interactive anchor charts, which we will store in the anchor chart box, to share their thinking and how they are using higher order thinking skills.
Although personal CD players are older technology, I feel they still have an effective place in the classroom.
They will reach the individual needs of my students, allow the students to work together in collaborative groups and learn from one another. Many students are avid readers while others are struggling. Audio books have something to offer all students. I want my groups of students to work at their pace and show what they are capable of at their reading level.
