Do You Hear What I Hear? Reading Through Technology!
My students need a listening center to increase their reading skills. This includes a place to store the equipment, a listening center system with headphones and audiobooks.

My Students
"Everyone is a reader, some just haven't found their favorite book yet." This quote explains how my students are trying to figure out what reading means to them. As we continue exploring, they are understanding, "The journey of a lifetime starts with the turning of a page." -Rachel Anders
I have a diverse set of students who face more struggles at home than I would hope of such young children.
Yet every day, they come to school excited and willing to share what they have and know. It breaks my heart, when I have students who have not read that week, because they say there are no books at home to read. They love learning through stories and interacting with a text. Most of the students often struggle over the decoding and then it becomes harder to get to the message behind the story unless they are listening to someone read with them.
My Project
My students will get to explore other worlds and ideas through this reading center. Hearing someone read the story makes it so that they can interact with more books during the school day. They will be enhancing their blending skills while learning how to read as they are following along with the story. Having the ability to listen to a story within a small group allows the students to talk about the stories in a more comfortable setting compared to the whole class where they may be too shy to speak their thoughts.
As first graders, a huge obstacle to overcome is a belief that they cannot read.
The best way to overcome this belief is through constant and varied interactions with texts. My students will use the reading center and audiobooks to discover and realize they can read.
