My school has not had an active library in over five years. In that time, graphic novels have become EXTREMELY popular regardless of the age group. In an effort to keep students reading, I share my books with any reader in the school who would like to borrow one. Needless to say, I can not keep up with the demand for new titles; especially graphic novels. What I love most about readers is finding a series or author that they are hooked on and can't get enough of. I know I have done my job when they come back to me weekly, and ask if I have the next book in a series or another similar book.
They don't always understand that I have a limited budget for books.
Not that I blame them; who doesn't want to read the next book in a series that has you on the edge of your seat when you finish it?
Some of the students' favorites are Dog Man, Hi-Lo, books by Raina Telgemeier, The I Survived Series (especially graphic novel versions), and The Babysitter's Club. Help me round out my collections of popular series and keep my students reading.
