My Students
Do you ever wish you could take a journey some place else? That is what I hope will happen as my students travel through time in the adventures with Jack and Annie in the Magic Tree House books.
My second grade students know the importance of reading.
They are encouraged to visit the library often and reading for 20 minutes is part of the nightly homework. The students' reading abilities vary from still emerging to above grade level. Lately, the students have shown a great interest in nonfiction material. They are curious about the world around them but they also love hearing stories that spark their imagination. The Magic Tree House books are a great way to combine both for students at any reading level to enjoy.
My Project
The Magic Tree House collection and Cd's will help my students continue to practice reading focusing on accuracy, pace and expression. This series is a wonderful opportunity for the students to develop important reading skills and strategies such as visualizing, making predictions and summarizing. The adventures of Jack and Annie will take the children across the curriculum as they begin to explore other content areas through these adventures. Because each book leads into the next the students will be eager to hear more and want to continue reading to find out what happens next with these characters.
