Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach a robotics and engineering elective. I order massive amounts of hot glue at the beginning of the school year. Despite ordering plenty for all of our projects and even extra this year (150% of what is needed), I am still running out. With 124 boys in my engineering classes this year, they seem to just need more hot glue.

For example, we are creating shoes out of takis, oreos, lays, and doritos boxes; with size 14 and 15 men's shoes, the amount of cardboard and glue necessary is significantly more than the size 8.5 female shoes.

We also made chairs for our security guard who is 6 ft 8 in, 365 lbs. Although hot glue is not the primary source for the chair, it is used as a temporary holding mechanism to keep the parts in place while they use a specific amount of masking tape.

So this project, is just for tons of extra hot glue sticks to have in reserve. We have one more design project this year, and I would like to be able to give them the ability to use hot glue to hold the pieces together, rather than masking tape or more expensive adhesive.

Thank you for supporting my students and their engineering creations. Hands-on activities are so much more engaging than notes and films. Thank you for helping my students imagine, research, design, prototype, evaluate, and then create the final projects.
