My Project

This request is for magnetic base 10 blocks and a Teacher Pay Teacher gift card to be used for teacher-tested activities for my multi-grade, multi-level math students.

Since place value is intrinsically linked to many other areas of math, a solid understanding of it is vital to allow children to add, subtract, multiply, and divide competently.

The use of base-ten blocks is ideal for students to be able to physically manipulate “the numbers”, thereby enabling them to conceptually understand the concepts of place value and assist them in making the connections from concrete to abstract understanding. The blocks provide the structure children need to make that leap. This is where the true magic of math competency takes place.

These magnetic place value blocks will allow students to work on the whiteboards in collaborative groups as they navigate their way through the learning process.

Additionally, the gift card for Teacher Pay Teacher would provide fun activities for my older, more advanced math students. They will be application based math activities so students can actively see how math works in the real world rather than simply practice mathematical procedures a worksheet.

Mrs. Collins will only receive her materials if this project is fully funded by September 2.
