This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

These items will help students in District 75 receive quality music education. New York City's District 75 provides highly specialized instructional support for students with significant challenges, such as Autism Spectrum Disorders, significant cognitive delays, emotional disabilities, sensory impairments, and multiple disabilities. PS 643X is a brand new school which is starting from the ground up.

Students in District 75 would benefit from instruments and manipulative for a variety of reasons. Music education allows students to improve their fine motor skills, social skills, communication skills, emotional health, self confidence, sensory skills, and cognitive skills. Many students also need visuals to help them understand and grasp certain topics. Students with disabilities need differentiated instruction, so having these instruments will allow me to provide that. Music also allows students to grow in their creativity and allows them to express themselves in their own way. Music allows students with disabilities to find their own way of expressing themselves and what they need.
