FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Ervin's classroom raised $1,063

I am the school nurse in a rural elementary school of about 600 students, located in the foothills of the mountains of NC. Most of the students in our school come from low-income families with about 65% qualifying for free or reduced lunch. Parents are working at low-paying jobs and do not have extra money for music lessons. Learning music can be such a wonderful and enriching experience. It is one of the things that, once learned, can be kept and enjoyed for a lifetime. There is an expanding bluegrass interest in our community with a local festival in the summer and various events throughout the year. Many of the children stay after school hours in an after-school program, while their parents work. Some are not picked up from school until 5:30 each day. This would be a great time for music lessons. I can play the fiddle and would love the opportunity to provide fiddle lessons for interested students. To begin this program, I need 5 beginner violins, bows, and cases. I will teach the children by ear so no additional materials are needed. Once the violins are purchased, the program can continue for many years to come at no additional cost.
This program would be a good way to introduce music to children who would otherwise not have the opportunity to learn it. Music can enrich lives and provide pleasure for a lifetime.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
