Our elementary school consists of 550 students in grades pre-kindergarten through the fifth grade. The school is located in the foothills of NC in a rural community with 75% of the students qualifying for free/reduced lunch. The students at this school do not have many cultural experiences outside of the school day due to coming from low income families, many of whom are facing unemployment at this time. With the poor economy and budget cuts in the school system, there are no funds to provide extras at school. Most field trips have been eliminated due to budget issues. This school year, our art program was also terminated. There are no funds for bringing performers to the school.
