My tapestry of scholars is beautiful, unique, and diverse. Each child brings their own energy, enthusiasm, and excitement into the classroom. Many of them come from less than desirable socio-economic circumstances and for that reason have not been exposed to everything the world has to offer them. It is my hope that as their reading teacher, I can provide them with windows and doors through books. It is my belief that all scholars are readers, some have yet to discover their book.
My Project
The djembe drums will provide an added level of fun, excitement and engagement to our lessons. Students will become designated drummer of the day and will beat the drum to signal celebrations of academic success, incorporate drum rolls during friendly competition in academic games and bring joy and music into our learning. Students who struggle with sitting still and/or staying focused will benefit from being tasked with the drummer of the day position because in order to time their drumming, they must stay engaged and actively participate. Not to mention: Who doesn’t love music? Adding music to our classroom just makes sense.
