This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

With your help, I plan to give my Title 1 7th and 8th grade students access to basic electronic music and dj-ing equipment to learn listening skills and encourage creativity. My students are very interested in rap music and dj-ing, and this will give them a view into what doing that entails. I have taken an electronic music course in college, and want to give my knowledge and love of electronic music creation and dj-ing to my students.

My goal is to encourage creativity in students who struggle with traditional music making.

While my students enjoy music, they have very few opportunities for creating music that is relevant to them. This will give them a chance to access skills that they may wish to use in the future if they love creating music, but not in a traditional sense.
