This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are just beginning their journey through Middle School with varying levels and interest in reading. At our school, the 6th grade focus is Self-Discovery and Building Empathy. I would like to give students the opportunity to build community by reading relevant and interesting identity-centered graphic novels in book club groups. You can support their growth and self-discovery in this journey!
Reading in community with others in book groups can help create a student-centered and student-led reading experience.
The books included in this project would expose students to stories that center on marginalized identities and relevant struggles for Middle Schoolers. My 6th grade students already have shown much interest in graphic novels, and this project will only enhance their love for various texts and literature.
