Diving into Dissection with Frogs

My students need frog dissection supplies. I am requesting new dissecting kits and frogs. My students tell me they really want to dissect a frog this year. Help me make that a reality.

My Students

I teach Biology to approximately 100 students each year at a high-poverty urban school. Many of these students walk into my classroom hating science. I strive to change that by providing fun learning activities.

My students always ask if they will get to dissect a frog like their parents did.

This year, I would like to make this a reality for them at the end of the school year.

My classes serve a wide variety of students. In my classroom, I have many students with disabilities and English language learners. These students tend to succeed more when actively learning (like when dissecting a frog).

My Project

My students enjoy learning through lab experiments and activities. At the end of each year we talk about the animal kingdom. My students would love to explore animals further by dissecting frogs.

At the beginning of each class year, the first question I usually get is "Are we going to be dissecting frogs?" This year the answer to that question is uncertain.

My dissection kits are old and in disrepair. I would like to supply new, safe tools for my students to use as well as frogs for them to study.

Frog dissection day is a very powerful day. Many of my students look forward to it all year long. Students learn about basic anatomy and get to see inside a real organism. Even the squeamish students who do not want to do the dissection themselves, enjoy watching their partner work. For some students, this activity inspires them to continue on to the medical field after high school.
