My students need hands-on activities, manipulatives, games, and exposure to the new common core standards with the Common Core Math Teaching kits and Learning Centers.
Winston Churchill once said "To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often." Florida schools are making the transition to the National Standard referred to as Common Core from the current Sunshine State Standards; whether or not the teachers are prepared with supplies/resources.
We are a Title I school.
Title I is an income based demographic for those who can only provide the bare essentials for learning growth. Sadly, Title I funding is being cut next school year and the little support our schools were receiving will be even less. As we try to provide the essentials (such as food from our pantry, clothing, and school supplies) for their daily needs--we also strive to keep their desire to learn a top priority and up to standard.
My Project
The Common Core Math Teaching Kit, Common Core Learning Centers for Math, and Common Core problem solving cards are just a three examples of how I can immerse my students with these new standards. These already prepared, hands-on activities give students quick access to a variety of different methods that are all in line with the new national standard. For example, one kit provides students with fraction tiles that will help them solve real world problems followed by an interactive computer game to check their understanding of fractions.
Change is inevitable and in order to prefect the art of teaching we need to change with the times.
The times are calling for us to use a National State Standard-Common Core. Please help me provide hands-on activities, manipulatives, and other resources for math that infuse the Common Core Standards in my classroom.
