My students need dictionary/thesaurus combos so they can increase their vocabulary, score higher on the State exam, and most importantly, stop asking me how to spell "receive."

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a middle school in Brooklyn, NY. I am a Language Arts teacher and have three 7th grade classes this year. My school is what you would call "financially challenged," and new books, especially books deemed not-so-crucial, like dictionaries, are difficult to come by.
If I had a dollar for every student who asked, "Mr. R - How do you spell..." I wouldn't need to ask for donations -- I'd be rich!
Part of their daily reading assignment is to write down two challenging or interesting words from their book, and define them. You see, the "define it" is the difficult part for us. I only have 5 dictionaries currently in my classroom. The smallest class I have has 31 students this year. I know I teach English and not Math, but something about those numbers doesn't seem quite right. Having a wait-list for a dictionary is not cool. Well, that's where you come in.
My Project
My kids need these dictionaries badly! And these books are so great, they are also a thesaurus - all rolled into one. Well it is not great, it is more like wonderful, stupendous, or amazingly awesome! (See, the thesaurus is already working.) The gift of these dictionaries will immediately help out my students and will continue to help them every single day. Not a day will go by when those dictionaries are not used. I promise! We write all the time. Or steadily, regularly, or even continually! See, it's working again!
Please give us the gift of words, stronger words, and EVEN STRONGER WORDS!
You will make a difference in the level of books that my students can read, as well as increase the level, creativity, and maturity of their writing. This addition to my classroom library is virtually priceless! A Literacy classroom with no dictionaries is like a Math class without a calculator and pencil. So come on, improve the reading, speaking, and writing vocabulary of three classes with the gift of dictionaries!
