My students walk through the door each morning with happy, smiling faces. They are always excited to greet me and each other. At first glance, you see happy children in a nice school building ready to learn.
Take a closer look, however, and you'll notice the stark differences.
Some of my students arrive well-groomed in matching outfits with new backpacks and lunch boxes. Many of my students, on the other hand, arrive in clothes are that are too small with uncombed hair and shoes that are falling apart. Their backpacks are patched up from last year with the hope that they will last through another year.
They are smiling and happy for very different reasons than their peers. These students are thrilled to receive a free breakfast and lunch. They are glad to be in a warm, safe place for the day where they have access to books, paper, markers, and pencils.
Daily, we strive to overcome this disparity in our student population to achieve the common goal of LEARNING.
My Project
Division is a new concept for third graders. Students need a firm grasp on their basic facts to be successful in more advanced math concepts in the years to come. We learn division facts alongside our equally important multiplication facts.
Games like Multiply, Divide, and Conquer or Division Tower provide a highly engaging platform for students to practice division facts!
It is vital that third graders are able to multiply and divide fluently, and they learn so much more when they are having fun. These fast-paced games will create an enjoyable learning atmosphere that encourages students to master their facts through friendly competition.
