My Students

I have a very diverse group of students who have faced many challenges in their short lives. In our area, financial hardship is real.

I am so lucky to teach in a school where everyone works to help meet the diverse needs of our kids.

I am able to teach all subjects to my students throughout the day. I hope that this project will help meet the needs of all of my students. These students love to work hard, use real world applications, and are excited to explore new ideas. I will be applying for books that can help integrate diversity in literature and science.

My Project

I am hoping to give my students culturally diverse texts that help teach the curriculum. I really want to integrate more culturally diverse texts within the curriculum because at my school we are becoming more diverse every year. It is important for my students to see picture books and chapter books with characters of color as well. I also wanted to purchase science books that include famous scientists of color and female scientists.

I know that these texts will not be the only way that I am teaching diversity, but just one way that I can incorporate some authenticity into the classroom.
