Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are underprivileged inner-city youth who face many life challenges. I love my students' energy, will to learn, their laughter, and their spark. They teach me about their cultures and their community. They are special because they are adventurers in academia. They thrive to learn academics while some simultaneously learn a second language. They shine brightly as they proudly share their native language, customs, food, and diversity. I celebrate perfect attendance monthly. Students are active participants by preparing and sharing a native dish with their peers and teachers at this celebration. This event is extraordinary because they express their social language skills. Students also demonstrate their love as they share how they prepared their particular dish. It is a culturally spectacular event. One student offered to teach the class how to prepare the main dish, "mofongo" from his country. This was an amazing moment because the second language was utilized mathematically and naming ingredients.

My Project

Students learn in various styles. The games are instrumental in providing a relaxed setting where in-depth conversations will happen. the cart and 3 tier rollaway cart will make the transition from the classroom to a conference room and even outdoors while weather permits. Kids love to be outside. The outdoors sparks enthusiasm and involvement. A lesson is only complete with technology. The laptop that will be used needs to be protected by a carrying case. E-literature/books, music, research, etc. will be at their fingertips regardless of where the learning is happening. Many of my students are learning English as a second language. The posters and calendar are an excellent way to expose them to the parts of speech, growth mindset phrases, calendar: months, days, numbers, etc. The printer will be used to print handouts, students' creative e-projects, mini-posters, etc. Adolescents are growing children who can snack endlessly. 100% of my students qualify for the "free lunch federal program". The snacks will be appreciated by the students especially when there are after-school activities.
