My students have a desire to learn. They come to school eager for knowledge and look to me, as their teacher, to provide it.
Most of my students come from low income or single-parent families.
Many of my students do not have the basic tools and supplies they need for a typical school day. My students are very energetic and want to learn.
Our school is in a constant battle to get our students the basic necessities they need to become successful scholars.
My Project
I am asking for your help to add culturally diverse and inclusive books to our classroom library. Remote learning is difficult for children, especially young children.
I have had an opportunity to read a few culturally relevant stories to my student this school year, and I have never seen my students so focused during a read aloud!
If my project is funded it will allow me to read more books about black and brown children to the children I serve. Young students need to see books and characters that are relevant to themselves and I know the selection of books I have chosen will allow my students to continue to love reading.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
