Diversity in the Classroom Part 2

My Students

My students are such a joy to have. They are amazingly talented and bright, and I am excited for this school year. They are destined to do great things, and this year will be one of the best. Some of my students need a little more motivation than others, however all are willing to learn and explore new things.

Despite all circumstances, my students deserve the best possible education.

With the right resources and materials, I know that my students can excel even more than they are now.

My Project

A few days ago I posted a project requesting books that had characters of various different cultures and colors. I wanted to use these books to showcase diversity, not to separate us, but to unite us in a way to show that being different is okay.

While our skin color or culture may be different, diversity goes far beyond that.

We can also be different when we have different disabilities, and challenges that are often times out of our control. Help me give my kids more books that explore characters that deal with autism, down syndrome, children in wheelchairs, homelessness, incarcerated parents, foster care, and living in poverty. Recognizing that we aren't all the same, is a great thing. We are all different, which makes us all unique, and allows us to understand and empathize with those who aren't like us.
