Diversity in Read Aloud Text

Help me give my students read-aloud texts with characters that represent them. I teach in northeast Denver, in a school that is 98% Black American. Our 2nd-grade class includes 20 students.

My Project

Our students work their hardest to grow, learn and become the best humans they can become! We can't wait to read our new books!

We will have our texts to read every day in our classroom, putting beautiful and meaningful texts into the hands of learners, and having characters who represent our community.

High-quality trade texts teach lessons, expose students to social-emotional life lessons and provide examples of appropriate responses. The text provides deeper comprehension and an opportunity to write and share learning.

We also requested laminating papers, which provide longevity with materials made for the classroom, so they are usable after repeated exposure to students.

We appreciate the opportunity to expand our classroom library! Thanks!
