My Project
My Pre-K students are active learners and love to explore the world around them! In my classroom we learn through play and hands-on activities everyday. My goal is to encourage my students to try new things and have the opportunity to experience a variety of activities that they may not have outside of school. My Pre-K class is located in a public school and enrollment is prioritized for students in low-income families or have other “at-risk” factors.
Our school is located in a rural area where my students may not have the opportunity to meet and interact with others from areas and backgrounds of ethnic or cultural differences.
Many of my students do not have access to travel outside of our county or to materials such as books in which they can see and learn about others cultures. By having materials in my classroom such as multicultural puppets, dolls, books and puzzles, we can have open conversations about people from all types of backgrounds, ethnicities and cultures. I strive to include diversity in my classroom in our read aloud stories, conversations and throughout our learning centers so that my students learn about the people both in our area and around the world.
I would like my students to be understanding and accepting of all people in our world. With the materials requested in this project, my students will have access to age-appropriate activities that will lead to this goal.
