Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach 9th grade English at a school whose students are predominately from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Our theme of the year in 9th grade is coming of age, and we thoroughly discuss and analyze this theme throughout the course of the year through various texts and activities.
This project would allow me to provide students with the opportunity to learn from and engage with texts that they can not only identify with, but can become inspired by.
The novels requested for our classroom library promote the theme of coming of age while also giving space to authors of color.
The goal is to give my students the opportunity to learn and shift their mindset through reading diverse novels.
