This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My advisory students love to read books that can resonate with their perspective of the world. However, a lot of the "classics" written by people with whom they don't identify with, don't resonate as instantly with them.
My students deserve a library of updated books that features authorship that more closely resembles themselves!
By helping me update and diversify our classroom library, students in Advisory will sample from the new books and find a reading partner with whom they can discuss as they finish each chapter.
I will have them do a "book sampling" where they speed date a few different books, and once they find one that they like, they will pair up with another student so they can have paired conversations as they read to check their comprehension and push their critical thinking.
