Help me give my students a diverse books in which they can find the text to self connections that can support their cultural identities as well as help them learn about others. Books can help create mirrors and windows.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class forms part of a diverse community of learners in the heart of our community. A typical day in my classroom involves challenging students to overcome their fears as learners.
However, my students and I had to take on a different challenge and end the school year ended with distance learning with no opportunity for hugs or proper
goodbyes to safe and healthy summer vacation.
The school I am currently working in is a Title I school that services children of different backgrounds and learning abilities.
The summer vacation is quickly passing and we are waiting to see what September would look like for us. In September, my students and I will embark on a new journey in a new grade with a different learning environment. As their teacher, I hope to cater to both their academic needs and social emotional needs.
My Project
First graders love read-aloud! Having the proper diverse books for a diverse group of learners is a must to foster students' text to self connections. Books should be meaningful to each individual child. Students should be able to identify with the characters in a book as well as have the opportunity to learn about others through books.
Having a diverse classroom library will help to build a better community of learners that understand and have compassion for each other while fostering students' love for reading.
I am sure my students will love the books requested!
