My Students

I am the school counselor for a group of amazing children that are in grades K-5. Most of them come from very low income families and many have learning difficulties. I would like to develop a program that ensures that they all have the opportunity to be all that they can be.

“You're off to Great Places!

Today is your day!

Your mountain is waiting,

So... get on your way!”

― Dr. Seuss, Oh, The Places You'll Go!

My students work very hard and truly enjoy school and learning. I want to ensure that they feel safe in school as well as at home. I also want to give them the ability to help others who are having difficult times. We are focusing on a lot of growth mindset and social emotional goals this year.

I absolutely love my students and truly enjoy teaching them and watching them grow. There is nothing better than the look that they have when they learn something new or when they know that they can do it. I want my students to have the social skills they need in the classroom as well as at home.!

My Project

These books will help to diversify the classroom libraries in grades kindergarten through second throughout our school. Our student population consists mainly of students of color who also have a low socioeconomic status. It is important for all students to have access to books that show a lot of diversity. Children’s books can easily include diversity by including a wide variety of characters. Simply seeing visual representations can be enough to show children that there are many different kinds of people in our beautiful world.

Children of color or with any other kind of diversity, can sometimes seem different and it is important to represent them in books.

If your child only ever sees white children in books, it can make the children of other races seem out of place. It is crucial to make it easier to accept themselves and understand that there is nothing wrong with them. It is also crucial to allow students with other backgrounds
