Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 6-7 year olds who will be learning online! They are loving, fun, happy, but most of all, they are ambitious. My students are first graders who learn in Spanish 90% of the day. We are a low-income school where 100% of the students receive free lunch and breakfast in the classroom. Since our day is in mostly taught in Spanish, it can be difficult to get resources for our growing learners.

My first graders love to read and are striving to read as much as they can!

As their teacher, my role is to get resources to enrich my students' learning in Spanish but also expose them to diverse books.

My Project

I teach in a Title I school with diverse students who come from different backgrounds. My first graders learn in Spanish 90% of the day, so these books will support my students in the targeted language. My goal is to put more diverse books in the hands of my students. If we will be doing distance learning, I will be able to read aloud the books to my students and they will be able to see themselves and relate to the story.

Teachers play an important role when it comes to diversity and acceptance, we also play a key role in empowering our students through books.

By my students having access to diverse books, they will be able to relate to the characters and realize they too are important. These books will also teach the importance of being KIND. Please help me teach my students about being respectful, showing empathy, caring for one another, and most of all loving who we are just the way we are.
