Help me give my students more diverse reading options, so they can see people that look like them while they read. What better way to show them that they are capable of anything?
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am currently in my first full year of teaching. I work with a wonderful group of second grade scholars. We work so hard and the scholars are eager to learn as much as possible. We use many different strategies and could benefit from an increase in the supplies we have in the classroom to help increase learning possibilities and variations.
We are in a Title I setting.
I don't want this to hold my second graders back so I am hopeful that we are blessed with donations for classroom necessities. Parents provide as much as they can, I bring resources in also, however I want to be able to provide even more for my scholars to improve our classroom and learning environment.
My Project
While we have been working on building a wonderful classroom library, we still have very few books that show diverse individuals. I enjoy reading to my scholars and having them to read about people from all races and cultural backgrounds. Having more diverse options to choose from will allow my scholars to have chance to read about wonderful people from all walks of life.
The Ordinary People Change the World Gift Set and Strong Girls Gift Set, along with all the other books included in this project will give my scholars a chance to read true stories about successful people who may be a lot more like them than they think.
This project will encourage my scholars to believe that no matter who they are, and where they come from, they can accomplish anything with the courage and drive necessary to succeed. Having the option to read about people like them will add so much confidence to each of them.
