My Students

I am privileged with the opportunity to teach a diverse group of second grade students. Our classroom is filled with diverse learners. Many families within our district have immigrated from other countries, which contributes to our large population of learners that are English Language Learning, or ELL.

My students bring their diverse knowledge, backgrounds, and experiences to our classroom each day and they are excited to learn!

We are building an understanding of the diverse cultures and backgrounds that are represented within our classroom family. My students would benefit from interactive materials that support the diversity within our classroom. Students deserve to be represented in all areas - play included!

My Project

At this age, it is so important to develop a love of school. It is also essential that children are exposed to a variety of cultures and family structures. In our classroom, we are fortunate enough to have many students that represent a variety of cultures and students that come from many different family structures.

In a world that is full of diversity and beautiful differences among people, students deserve representation in all areas of their learning: literature, materials and interactive play.

These multi-cultural toys will allow my students to see themselves in the toys they interact with. Students of all backgrounds deserve representation in their classroom families. Too often, do the play materials students use only represent the majority... when in fact our classroom's are quite the opposite! These materials will be used to encourage conversation among my students as we grow together in our classroom family to appreciate diversity.
