Help me give my students rich texts, that reflect their identities and cultures.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Sinanan's classroom raised $282
This project is fully funded
My Students
My students will be the youngest learners in the public school system, 3 year olds! They are a diverse group of students, representing countries all around the world. Altogether, I will have a maximum of 15 students from Queens. Most of my students come from low-income households.
It is important for my students to see themselves represented in books available in the classroom.
Literacy is such an important aspect of early childhood education, and I would love to help my students gain a love for reading.
My Project
These picture books will make a positive difference in my students' learning. They will help my students remain engaged during story time, when they see characters and hear stories and that are familiar to their lives.
Reading books that represent diverse characters provides an opportunity for my students learn about other cultures.
This exposure allows students to build accepting attitudes and empathy towards people of differing races, religions, abilities and so much more. These culturally rich books will also provide an opportunity to engage in conversations about how people are different, yet still the same. These experiences will help our students become compassionate and caring individuals, that will support social justice issues as they grow older.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
