Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A day in the art room is full of creativity in all forms! A diverse set of materials fill the room and engage the students in learning. We are working toward building a foundation of art materials to explore all mediums!
This school is a Title I Charter school supporting low-income families.
The school serves students from kindergarten through 8th grade. This school is growing academically and is full of potential! The art program is an enrichment program to support creativity. Through joyful school experiences, we are forming lifelong learners and a positive school climate and culture.
My Project
In the art room, we explore many different mediums and styles. Self-expression can be displayed in many forms. Self-portraits are a great approach for students to draw, embellish, and express their identity.
We celebrate diversity in the classroom, and therefore we need diverse materials to represent our diverse student population.
Our classroom needs multicultural construction paper, paint, crayons, colored pencils, and sharpies. In addition to these foundation materials, I am requesting two books, The Skin You Live in and The Colors of Us. These books incorporate literature into the art room and to bring awareness to cultural diversity.
These materials will help my students create paintings, drawings, and collages depicting themselves. Students will also have the opportunity to embellish their portraits and create unique backgrounds with patterns or drawings.
