Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My first graders are developing readers. They spend time during the school day reading independently, and we also read together as a group. I want to provide my students with grade level books that they can read on their own. I also want to provide our class the chance to listen to, read, discuss, write about, and draw about diverse books.

These books will give students the opportunity to make connections, building a sense of belonging, sparking curiosity, embracing uniqueness, and encouraging kindness.

Exposing students to a wide range of texts can help introduce students to new cultures, traditions, and vocabulary, expanding their knowledge. When doing this at a young age, like in my first grade classroom, the students and I will continue fostering an inclusive, empathetic, and kind classroom environment.
