My Students
In our second grade classroom, we LOVE to learn. Every one of my students is so different from each other and they all bring a unique spirit into our classroom. I love the different cultures and different learning styles. As a teacher, my students definitely keep me on my toes!
My students are amazing!
They come everyday eager to learn and grow. Our school is in a rural part of Utah and for a small school we certainly have a very diverse population. My students come from different backgrounds and have very different learning styles. I love trying to find new ways to get them excited about learning and find out what their strengths are. When you have such a diverse group of students it can be hard to find what works for all students, but I have to try! Mixing up where we sit and what activities each student does definitely helps meet their needs.
My Project
My students need wobble chairs, bean bag chairs and Hot Dots activities. Not every student learns best at their seat, or in a traditional seat anyway. With these Hokki Stools it will help my students move around while they work. The base of these stools is convex and actually encourages movement and stimulates the brain as they work. The bean bags will let them be comfortable if they choose to sit on the floor to work. Giving my students choices of where they would like to sit will help them be more engaged in their learning because they will be in charge of their learning. The Hot Dots activities allow students to receive instant feedback while they are working on different tasks. That feedback is so crucial to many students and it can be hard to get to every student to give that feedback. It is also another activity that will get them engaged and motivated.
Every student learns differently and each student deserves to learn in an environment that meets their individual needs.
My students are wonderful, hard workers and they do the very best with what they have. Differentiated activities and seating will give them some flexibility to what can sometimes be a very inflexible learning environment.
