Diverse Learners Boost Productivity in Integrated Classrooms

Help me give my students this portable screen extender to boost their academic productivity while being educated in the general education setting.

My Students

My students are sixth to eighth graders with exceptional needs in an urban, public, neighborhood school in the third largest district in the country. My school had been on academic warning status with the state for twelve years due to low test scores. I am proud to say, these past two years we have done it! My school is officially a level one school. The school averages in the fifty-third percentile in reading and in the forty-fourth percentile in math compared to the national average. My school enrolls three hundred and forty-eight students in an old building that can hold seven hundred and fifty.

My school community is one hundred percent African American and ninety-six percent low-income.

Students live within the school boundaries. My students have learning disabilities with audio and visual learning styles. Despite their disabilities, my students are strong and persevere.

My Project

My diverse learners receive some of their Special Education services in an integrated classroom setting with their same age peers. I noticed a need for my students to productively contribute to their learning environment and keep up with the classroom activities.

The portable screen extension will allow me to provide accommodations for my students' visual learning styles.

I will be able to extend my laptop screen so multiple students around me can see and follow classroom notes, presentations etc.. This technology will used in all classroom settings and activities. I will best be utilized to collaborate in small groups.
